Strictly star Oti Mabuse to host new ITV musical dating show Romeo & Duet

Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse is set to host new ITV musical dating show Romeo & Duet.

The seven-part series will see Oti, 31, "preside over the musical matchmaking as single love seekers stand on a breathtaking balcony and are serenaded by potential love matches that they can hear, but not see".

It comes after Oti, who has previously won Strictly with Kelvin Fletcher and Bill Bailey, was confirmed to replace John Barrowman on the upcoming series of Dancing On Ice.

Romeo & Duet is set to go into production later in January 2022 and will give singers just one song to woo a singleton down from the balcony with the two then set to come face-to-face for the first time.

The new couple will then go on a duet-date where they will learn a duet together and will then return to the show to perform the chosen piece in a love battle against the other couples, with only one duo being crowned the winners.

Talking about the exciting new role, Oti said: "I'm so excited to be part of Romeo & Duet. It’s always been a dream of mine to host so this is a real pinch me moment, and it's a blessing for me to finally be able to share this news.

"I honestly can’t wait to get started! It’s about love with a little bit of a twist and showcase of talent, it’s fresh and fun, and I hope everyone’s going to love it as much as I do.

"Thank you to Katie Rawcliffe, Mel Crawford and Joe Mace for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity."

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, said: "Romeo & Duet is a fun twist on the dating show format, and Oti Mabuse is the perfect choice to host this entertaining cross between music and matchmaking."
