Since his childhood, Brody Jenner hasn’t had the closest relationship with his father, Caitlyn Jenner.
Though they have tried to work on their bond before Caitlyn Jenner’s transition, the father and son duo just couldn’t get as close as they wanted to.
Now, Brody Jenner is opening up about his relationship with his dad and didn’t hold back his emotions when talking about Caitlyn Jenner skipping out on his wedding day.
Jenner was extremely hurt that his father didn’t attend his wedding
In the past, Brody Jenner has remained pretty mum on the topic of his strained relationship with Caitlyn Jenner.
Growing up, Jenner had gotten used to his father missing out on major events in his life and usually didn’t let the disappointment get the best of him.
However, on the latest episode of The Hills: New Beginnings, Jenner opens up about the pain he felt after Caitlyn Jenner decided not to attend his wedding to his now-wife, Kaitlynn Carter.
While enjoying dinner with his mother, Linda Thompson, and older brother, Brandon, and his wife, Jenner shared how much of a let down it was not having his father attend his wedding.
“Not having my dad at the wedding, it was a bummer,” Jenner said.
“Honestly, it really did hurt and I would have loved to have had her there,” he added. “But she had better things to do. Apparently.”
Since Caitlyn Jenner had attended Kaitlynn Carter’s bridal shower two months before the couple’ big day, it was assumed that she would also be front and center for the ceremony.
It turns out that instead of attending her son’s wedding, Caitlyn Jenner was already scheduled to make an appearance at an amfAR event in Austria the day before.
A source at the time shared that Caitlyn Jenner had “work commitments that have been set up for months and couldn’t be changed in the end.“
Though these commitments had been confirmed months in advance, they were revealed to the couple a few days before their wedding.
“Right before our wedding, Brody’s dad canceled on coming to the wedding, like a week before,” Kaitlynn Carter said during her confessional. “Brody really just kind of brushed it off, but he has to have felt something. But he doesn’t express it.”
The reality star has never felt close to Caitlyn Jenner
Though we can easily guess how upsetting it was for Caitlyn Jenner to miss out on his wedding, Brody Jenner wasn’t too surprised it happened.
While he would have loved having his father there, Brody Jenner shared with his mother that he’s never felt close to his father.
“My dad and I have never really had a great relationship,” Jenner said on The Hills: New Beginnings latest episode. “Through all the ups and downs that my family has had, my mom has always been the rock.”
Even though Brody Jenner is still hurt and upset with Caitlyn Jenner over all of this, his mother has been urging him to find a way to forgive.
“You’re not wrong to have your feelings hurt,” Linda Thompson told her son. “You’re not wrong to be angry and to feel slighted. But you’ve just got to let it go.”
While Thompson knows how much her sons missed out on having an active father in their lives over the years, she still feels as though forgiveness is the only way her son Jenner move on.
“I don’t give Caitlyn a pass, you know, for not being a father,” Thompson told Jenner. “I don’t think there’s any excuse ever to not be there for your children. It’s not what you would ever do, it’s not what you would ever do — to have a child and not call them on their birthday and be a parent to them.”
She then added, “I’m not excusing Caitlyn, I’m just saying it’s forgivable. I think everything in life is forgivable, and it’s not even for the other person, it’s for your own self. You have to forgive, so it doesn’t eat away inside you.”
As for if Brody Jenner has forgiven Caitlyn Jenner, that is still up in the air.
