This Morning fans were left confused when ITV presenter Alison Hammond sat out of an interview on the show. Fellow host Dermot O’Leary held the fort briefly during a live interview with actor Phil Dunster.

Dermot spoke to the Ted Lasso actor one-on-one, going against the usual tradition of both hosts chatting to the guests.

Alison and her co-host were in the kitchen area of the studio but after a competition advert, it was left for Dermot to continue presenting the show.

Fans flocked to social media to discuss their bewilderment at her absence.

@UKTV_forever tweeted: #ThisMorning what happened to Alison??”

@liamandrews123 wrote: “Hope Alison is okay, strange how she’s come off the show #ThisMorning.”

@johnlennonsboot added: “Was this a planned solo interview or has she disappeared somewhere?”

@thismorning replied: “Why was @AlisonHammond missing from the interview with Ted Lasso actor?”

Some fans were receptive to the idea of the pair splitting up to speak to celebrity guests.

@Hotsunnydaze1 penned: “At last!! Separating out for solo interviews…. should do this more often. There is absolutely no reason why they should be joined at the hip for the entire show.”

More speculation continued and @DinghyDiver joked: “Calm down everyone. Alison had just nipped off for a crafty cig.”

Dermot spoke to Phil about his new drama series The Devil’s Hour, where he stars alongside the former Timelord on Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi.

Alison’s absence was felt strongly by fans at a time where the presenter can do no wrong with a lot of This Morning fans.

The star was nominated for best presenter at the National Television Awards and also scooped an accolade at the Ethnicity awards on Thursday night.

She paraded the new gong proudly on the table at the beginning of Friday’s show.

However, the TV personality has had to bat away claims she does not get on with her ITV co-host Dermot.

Addressing the claims she laughed: “I can’t tell you how wrong they actually are. I love the fact that people think that. I’m gonna keep that going.

“Go ‘babes, people think we hate each other, let’s do a couple of things on the telly like stand further apart’.

The Brummie star told GKBarry on the Saving Grace podcast: “But seriously I love the fact people think we’ve got beef, it’s hilarious.

“Honestly I can’t tell you how much I love that man, he’s so funny.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub
