FANS of classroom drama Waterloo Road are thrilled the hit series is back on BBC One.

The show first aired back in 2006, and returns with some new and familiar faces.

Who is in the cast of Waterloo Road?

After eight years away, Waterloo Road is back for season 11.

The show focuses on the lives of the kids and teachers from in and around the fictional Waterloo Estate.

The original show which ran from 2006 to 2015, before its big return in 2023.

Cast members for the new series include newcomers, while a number of former Waterloo Road stars are reprising their characters.

Angela Griffin as Kim Campbell

Angela Griffin reprises her role of Kim Campbell in the new series of Waterloo Road – but this time she is the Head Teacher.

After finding fame in Coronation Street, the actress has enjoyed an incredible career which includes starring in shows like Cutting It, The Detail, and Help.

In 2022 she starred in the hit Amazon Prime Video movie, Your Christmas Or Mine.

Speaking about returning to Waterloo Road, Angela told the BBC: "I have thoroughly enjoyed stepping back into school and taking Kim Campbell back on again, but, in all honesty, it feels like a brand-new job.

"It doesn't feel like I've gone back in time. I absolutely feel like I'm Kim Campbell rooted in 2023. She's a different woman.

"She's a different teacher. I mean, well, she's the head for example, which uses a completely different skill set than to be head of pastoral."

Kym Marsh as Nicky Walters

Singer and actress Kym Marsh is new to Waterloo Road, playing Nicky Walters.

The star shot to fame in pop band Hear' Say before swapping singing for acting, and joining Coronation Street.

In 2022 she also strutted her stuff on the Strictly dancefloor.

During season 11 of Waterloo Road, Kym's character faces challenges in the aftermath of the pandemic.

Nicky struggles to maintain her composure when the family undergoes some personal difficulties.

Adam Thomas as Donte Charles

Adam Thomas shot to fame playing the wayward teenager Donte Charles in Waterloo Road.

He has since forged an incredible career, which included a long stint on Emmerdale.

Speaking about being back on the show, Adam told the BBC: "I never in a million years thought this was going to happen. I’m so excited to be back."

He went on: "It's just gonna be bigger and better than ever. It really is.

"This series – I’m not just saying this – is probably gonna be the best series yet."

James Baxter as Joe Case

James Baxter plays one of the Deputy Heads at the school, Mr Case.

His character is described as "sociable and supportive of head teacher Kim".

Away from Waterloo Road, the actor is known for playing Jake Doland in Emmerdale, along with turns in Alma's Not Normal, Still Open All Hours, and Holby City.

Katie Griffiths as Chlo Charles

Another returning Waterloo Road star is Katie Griffiths.

Chlo was one of the original pupils on the show, and the daughter of Art teacher Izzie Redpath (Jill Halfpenny) who was killed in a stabbing.

She is now all grown up with children of her own.

Away from Waterloo Road, actress Katie has also appeared in episodes of Casualty, and was a series regular in the show Hatfield & McCoys.

Speaking about being back on the show, Katie told the BBC: "It's been wonderful. It feels like coming back but also everything is different.

"The set’s different. The classes are brand new, there’s a really exciting cast and some returning faces. 

"So it's been a bit of everything but it’s been lovely. "

Scarlett Thomas as Izzy Charles

Young actress Scarlette Thomas is new to the acting scene, and this is her first role – but she already has a great connection to Waterloo Road.

This is because she is the niece of her on-screen father Adam Thomas.

But her claim to fame doesn't stop there, as she is the daughter of his brother Ryan Thomas with former partner Tina O'Brien, both of whom are Coronation Street actors.

Tina also appeared in earlier seasons of Waterloo Road as a pupil, Bex Fisher.

Meanwhile, on the show, Scarlette's character is a new pupil at Waterloo Road.

Waterloo Road will kick off on BBC One TONIGHT (January 3, 2023) at 8pm, and will run for seven episodes on Tuesday nights.

The series can also be watched on the BBC iPlayer as a boxset, after the first episode has aired.
