Call the Midwife is the heartwarming BBC One drama about a group of East End midwives in the 1960s. For several years now, there has been a festive episode on Christmas Day and this year will be no different. Express.co.uk has everything you need to know about the upcoming episode of Call the Midwife.
What time is Call The Midwife Christmas special on?
Call the Midwife returned for its tenth season earlier this year, reaching its finale on Sunday, May 30, on BBC One.
While the emotional drama hasn’t been on our screens for quite some time, it will be making a comeback on Christmas Day for its annual special.
The Call the Midwife Christmas episode is going to air at 8pm on Saturday, December 25, on BBC One.
From the sounds of it, there will be plenty going on to keep fans hooked.
First up, there is the return of Mother Mildred (played by Miriam Margolyes) in the festive special.
She made her debut during the season eight Christmas episode after Mother Jesu Emmanuel’s (Marty Cruikshank) health began to worsen.
This is when Mother Mildred stepped forward and took over the role.
Actress Margolyes has been in numerous shows and films over the years including the Harry Potter franchise, James and the Giant Peach, The Age of Innocence and Trollied.
In a behind-the-scenes video posted to the show’s official Twitter account, Sister Julienne actress Jenny Agutter teased Mother Mildred’s entrance.
She said: “And of course we [have] Miriam Margolyes arriving out of the blue on a milk float, of all things.”
This episode is going to be a particularly important one for Sister Frances (Ella Bruccoleri).
She will be delivering her first breech baby which is going to be a big challenge for her.

Actress Bruccoleri explained: “Sister Frances has her first-ever breech delivery – and she was born breech – so she’s kind of, like, been building up to the first time doing it.
“And she has to do it with very little help, so it’s kind of a big deal.”
There will be a bigger storyline coming up for Timothy Turner (Max McMillan) as well.
As he takes a break from medical school, he will go to his first call with his dad Patrick Turner (Stephen Vincent McGann).
However, it won’t be exactly the easiest experience for the father-and-son pair as they pay a visit to a “bunch of gangsters”.
McMillan explained: “For this year’s Christmas special, it’s been quite exciting for my character because he’s taken one of his first steps…into the real medical world.
“That was really fun to get to experience the more intense side of the show.”
The Call the Midwife Christmas Special will air at 8pm on Christmas Day on BBC One.
